MITEVI FOLK SASKO & DONKA

Saško and Donka Mitev are a wonderful couple who, in their own original way, present traditional dances and songs from Macedonia and the Balkans. They have held numerous seminars across Europe. They collect their dances and songs from the field, where the older generation has been performing them in their authentic form for many years. In addition to performing traditional dances, they also preserve the traditional instruments that are common in the Balkans, such as the bagpipe (Gajda), the flute (Kaval), and the accordion (Harmonica)

Donka Miteva was born in Negotino, a city located in Central Macedonia, near the famous and most sung-about river Vardar, which flows into the Aegean Sea in Greece. From a very young age, she has been a member of the Cultural and Artistic Society 'Jane Sandanski' from Negotino, where she travels across Europe presenting Macedonian folklore. 

Since 2010, she has been a choreographer at the Macedonian Folklore Education Center MITEVI in Skopje, a dance studio for children with around 220 children divided into 7 groups. Donka has held several seminars on traditional dances, including those in Alicante, Vigo, Valladolid, and Zaragoza, Spain. 

She graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Skopje and is currently employed as a biology teacher.
